Description

Yes this is a graveyard. Not as we normally look on a modern cemetery.

Native American burial mound. Locate East of East St Louis in Illinois.

Cahokia Mounds: The largest Native American mounds in the US. Referred to as the Mississippi Culture. There really is not a tribe call Mississippi but is a collection/group of tribes that came together. Trade and tribal interaction. Spiritual interaction.

Many of the mounds where burial mounds but not all. The larger mounds at this location where used for spiritual activities and social events, etc.

There is one mound here that has a footprint larger then that of the great pyramid in Egypt. It took several hundred years to build if I remember what I read.

As a Cultural Anthropologist I am interested in more then just cemeteries with grave stones. As a Native American I am double interested in any Native American burial sights. Spiritual locations. And as an Art Photographer a task to image this so it did not just look like a mound of dirt.

I grew up about 20 miles west of there on the other side of the Mississippi River. And in all that time I only visited the sites once. :(

Come to think of it I only went into the Arch once too. :o (Eek)
