The night of Sept 4th/5th. Shoot about 50 miles west of Louisville, Kentucky, USA.

One 12 minute exposure at AS 100. 28 MM f/2 Nikkor lens set at f/4. Nikkor lens mounted on a Canon 450D camera. White Balance at 3600K. Raw to JPG converted then Photoshop touch up of Contrast and Brightness. Light saturation brush touch ups.

Update Sept 7th: Many have wanted a few more details. Yes this image was a tracked image. The camera was mounted on a Vixen GP German Equatorial Telescope Mount. The mount is outfitted with a Skyview Pro Goto System by Orion and one of Orion's guiding camera. PHD guiding. A 115 Mack Vixen scope was used for the guiding camera.

Side note: I have not found a sky glow free sky around Louisville,Ky. I have tried 150/200 miles our from Louisville, Ky. If you know of a location please post.

Image as a wallpaper. Looking South, south, west.

soooo beautiful! you must have enjoyed what you saw and created there.
weird that a 12 minute exposure on a tracked mount can be so clear. that meddles with my blond logic :boogie:
here is someone who dreams of having access to such gear some day - and someone who thanks you for sharing :blowkiss:

The lens is a key part of an image like this. I have boxes of lenses to pick from. I have keep lens from my first days of photography some 51years. Boxes and boxes of old lenses. The lens I used is older then that. It is about 60 years old. Older may be better.

ah, cheers for the info. you are right, when something older is of better quality than something younger then older is better ;p

Hey man. Thanks for the information in your comment. I just don't understand one thing... Why aren't the stars rotating?

The camera was on a tracking device that followed the stars.

I just add to the comments about the mount I used to do this image.
